the thing about winter.

i haven't left my apartment ONCE this entire weekend because i've been balled up studying. i'll tell you my dear readers, i can't WAIT for this madness to be over and done with. (1 more week!!) i'm deeply sorry for the continued complaints. i was reading something the other day about a woman who made a pact with herself not to complain for an entire week. apparently, only wonderful things came of it. i believe it too. that being said....i won't be making a pact like this any time soon. i too desperately need to vent every now and then-particularly the last few weeks of each semester.

on a happier note....let's talk about winter. a season that is not my favorite, but brings with it some particularly magical things:

i enjoy staying in bed all day. no make up. hair in a messy bun. it is so much more appealing than the thought of frigid air hitting my face.

when i do venture outside, i embrace the weather because it means i get to pair cute boots with leggings and knee-high socks, a short wool skirt, a big coat and a funky scarf.
creamy tomato soup sounds really good.

candles are always lit.

there is an excuse to eat an abundance of yummies: chocolate kisses, cheese and pistachios.
all roads lead home.

it's a time when i truly appreciate my friends and family, because winter brings the holidays, and holidays remind me of all that there is to be thankful for. i'm so lucky.
christmas commercials. (talk about good advertising! i want this perfume just because of the commercial! and i haven't even smelled it yet.)

home alone, elf, white christmas, love actually and family man. (classics)
warm 106.5 and listening to vince guaraldi's "a charlie brown christmas" and mariah carey "merry christmas" on repeat.

where the wild things are.

“Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it. I answer all my children’s letters — sometimes very hastily — but this one I lingered over. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, “Dear Jim: I loved your card.” Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.” That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it.” -Maurice Sendak

she sips whiskey like a man.

i have this friend.

she has this layered laugh. sometimes she laughs to be polite, and sometimes she laughs because something is really really funny. and i can tell the difference. she can drink hard liquor without grimacing. i've always admired ladies who can sip on a whiskey like a man. she likes to be at home. not a home-body really. but she's one of those people who are completely content with remaining in their comfort zone. i like that about her. i mean, why fix something that isn't broken? when she opens up, you start to understand her complexities, her worries and fears. but she wouldn't open up to just anyone. and when she opens up to me, it makes me feel really special. and she's incredibly opinionated, yet passive as all hell. the combination has truly made me want to jump off of a building sometimes, but upon greater inspection, you realize that it's a whole lot better than not having an opinion in the world and  being rudely aggressive. and she has impeccable taste. she likes to wear a baseball cap and sweats to the mall (it's not like she's trying to impress anyone), and yet, she is the first person i'd go to for an opinion on a funky sweater. because she is honest. and honestly what is better than that?!

i have a pet. his name is bird. he is a rabbit.

i just stumbled across "i live real close to where you used to live: kids' letters to michelle obama (and malia, sasha & bo)" on mcsweeney's internet tendency. they are pretty cute-quite funny. here are some of my favorites:

Dear Michelle Obama,
I go to school at Grand View. I hate the cafeteria food. It is so disgusting. I have a pet. His name is Bird. He is a rabbit. I know it's confusing.
Sincerely,
Jesus Ruiz, age 10
Los Angeles

Dear Michelle Obama,
I think your husband should legalize immigration. Please put a statue of me in Echo Park. Thank you. JK. No, really. I want a tuxedo on the statue.
Love,
Andres Ortega, age 11
Los Angeles

Dear Michelle,
You are eating 100% healthy. Can you put my dad in a job? You're doing a good job helping the homeless. I'm eating healthy. I'm eating watermelon, melon, mango, and persimmons. I just want to have $200. And you have a very nice house. All I know is one of the rooms is a speech room.

i took my evidence final today. i'm so happy to have it off of my chest. now on to the next....but can i vent for a minute? why on earth do law school exams have to be so rough?? i mean really. is it necessary that a single test determines your entire grade? is it necessary that exams are 4 hours long? i just hate it. i really do.

enough moaning and groaning.

thoughts?

tuesday's tunes

i'm not one of those "music listeners" ....which seems funny to me. but, i lost my ipod for about 7 months (just found it yesterday! yippee!), i listen to npr/bbc in my car (and don't drive very far-ever), and i often forget to turn on pandora while i get ready in the morning. but this is just silly really. silly silly excuses! music makes my life so much more enjoyable! (especially while i'm studying for these retched finals.) here are some good tunes that have been floating around my head lately...

a boogie/a song for a hangover:

some for studying/a good slow dance with your lover:

what kind of 'bloggette' would i be if i left you without fotos? (a rotten one, no doubt!) here is a bit of whimsy for your tuesday evening:

to sleep is to dream you.

there is no place i'd rather be right now than cuddled up in bed. (instead of at my desk taking a break from studies). perhaps this is because i haven't been sleeping well lately-at night at least. someone recently told me that watching tv in bed gives you a false sense of sunlight so you think you're supposed to be awake and end up staying up really late. i don't know if i stay up late because i'm watching sex & the city, because i'm stressing about school, or because i have a false sense of sunlight.

here are some beds i could just dive right into.
