cinema paradiso is a foreign film i watched a long time ago with a friend of mine. the soundtrack is beautiful, and has an incredible story line. it is still one of my favorite films.

the most  beautiful fraud in the world is a new blog i've been following. it has insightful movie reviews by a real movie buff.

to see things through a different lens.

coffee table books i'm interested in purchasing. right. now.

feeling blue

"You know those days when you've got the mean reds....the blues are because you're getting fat or maybe it's been raining too long. You're sad, that's all. But the mean reds are horrible. You're afraid and you sweat like hell, but you don't know what you're afraid of. Except something bad is going to happen, only you don't know what it is." ~Breakfast at Tiffany's, 1958, spoken by the character Holly Golightly

last night i had a classic case of the mean reds. i find that those days are usually followed by the blues.  maybe because we regret how we let our emotions get the most of us the night before. swirling around and around, as if they were the only emotions that mattered-causing wreckage in their wake. blue is just how i'm feeling now. it's grey outside and everything just looks static outside of my window. no birds chirping, no squirrels busy at work, not even the sound of traffic.

a pretty shade of perfection.

photos found on: Lashes. a fun new blog i just stumbled upon...and starring some of the most beautiful leading ladies of the hour.

newspaper snowflakes.

today was my last day of classes before finals. i can't believe it is already this time of year. this is the time when my heart starts pounding and the blood rushes to my face when i spill a tea at a cafe, and when i am so panicked to get to class on time that i park in bus zones only to find $30 tickets on my windshield (more welling of tears).

so, in honor of taking good advice when it is given, i listened to a good friend who recently advised me to: try to not think about tomorrow, or what happened yesterday- and instead think about what's happening right now (minus what's stressing me out) and just take a second to appreciate life, and all the beauty around us--and even though it can make us feel small, it can also make us realize that what we are fretting over isn't that big in the "full" scheme of things, and that stressful or not, life is still full of beauty... (Thanks Alyson!!)

the beautiful things in my life (in no particular order):

1. MY PARENTS who are so much fun, and take such good care of our family.
2. MY LITTLE DOG, who is so loved, so well behaved and so cute!
3. MY COZY HOME, filled with candles, big blankets, and flowers (and currently newspaper snowflakes).
4. MY ROOMMATE, who is easy-going, lets me borrow her Sex & the City DVDs, and is always willing to listen.
5. MY DEAR FRIENDS who have stood by my side, who know how to have a good time, and constantly have faith in me (and who write me inspirational messages when they know i'm going through a rough patch...who needs religion when you have incredible friends?!?!).
6. MY NEW OBSESSION FOR DESIGN BLOGS which will get me through law school in one piece.
7. THE NEW HARRY POTTER MOVIE which is the best one yet.
8. MY YELLOW INFINITY SCARF and MY BLUE BEADED BELT which I like to think match with every outfit.
9. MY ADVENTURE, CREATIVITY AND INNER DELIGHT which I need to make sure I don’t lose sight of.

what is beautiful in your life? i'd love to hear.

dwell in possibility.

this probably could not be stated enough in the history of the world, but, i'm going to say it anyway. audrey hepburn is magically enchanting, and a slice of perfection. every time i watch roman holiday or sabrina or breakfast at tiffany's, i just want to jump right into the television screen and become her best friend. and then, for the hour following the kiss in the rain, i like to talk like she does. ar.tic.u.lat.ing. every. syllable. have you noticed how she does that? it's charming. (the following photos were captured by Bob Willoughby...my new favorite photographer).
waiting to film my fair lady.
did you know that audrey hepburn had a pet baby deer? i just found this little factoid out today. it's name was pippin and she called it "ip" for short. that might be the most tender thing i've ever heard-(and this is coming from someone who does not care for deer, generally. although, for ip, i'd make an exception.)

an experiment with peppers.

i was feeling particularly...something....when i came home from school this evening. a mix between exhaustion, hunger, stress and the desire for coziness. the day was a complete whirlwind, and like most whirlwind days, i forgot to take a moment to eat something. it is at times like these when i scrounge around my apartment for some savory eats.

here is what i came up with....i will call it something swimmingly creative like: stuffed red pepper with chick peas, orzo and goat cheese.

sure does look pretty doesn't it?! didn't taste too bad either!

here is another delish dish for you to try:

this is one of my favorite recipes of all time. i made it most recently for a friend's birthday. it is quite a process to assemble, especially if you don’t have the ingredients readily available in your pantry, but just put on some good tunes and prepare to get messy. it is definitely worth it! people are always impressed with the fusion of flavor and the fact that you took the time to make something homemade.

Thai Pot-stickers
·         2 small whole green onions
·         1 tablespoon of ginger
·         1 pound of veal, pork or chicken (ground)
·         2 teaspoons of oyster sauce
·         1 tablespoon of Chinese rice wine/dry sherry
·         ½ teaspoon Asian chili sauce
·         ¼ cut of cornstarch
·         3 tablespoons of cooking oil
·         40 thin gyoza or wonton wrappers
Sauce
·         1 tablespoon of basil
·         1 tablespoon of cilantro
·         1 whole green onion
·         ½ cup of unsweetened coconut milk
·         1 tablespoon of oyster sauce
·         ½ cup of Chinese rice wine
·         1 tablespoon of Asian chili sauce
·         ½ teaspoon of curry powder
·         ½ teaspoon of sugar

start by putting on some good tunes and an apron-trust me, if you are anything like me, you’ll need both!

prepare by putting a sheet of parchment paper on a cookie sheet and covering it with the cornstarch. pour your cooking oil in a small bowl, you’ll need it later. (don’t put it too close to the edge of your counter-i spilled the entire contents on my floor the last time i made these…idiot!)

next, get a large bowl and combine the onions, ginger, meat (i prefer ground turkey over what the recipe calls for), oyster sauce, Chinese rice wine & Asian chili sauce. i’ve made them without the Chinese rice wine (and used rice vinegar instead-who knows if they’re ANYTHING alike!?!) and they turned out just fine. make sure you mix this stuff up really well.

here comes the fun part…take a small dollop of meat-gunk and place it in the middle of your gyoza wrapper. then pinch the top of the wrapper. it should look like a little coin pouch when you’re done. it’s okay if some meat pops out of the top. place each pot-sticker on the cookie sheet, then let them cool in the fridge while you prepare the sauce.

combine sauce ingredients.

in a large wok (set on medium high-adjust heat as needed), pour a bit of your oil and wait for it to heat up. place the pot-stickers (some…maybe 1/3) in the oil (on their bottoms), cover them in the sauce (don’t use all of it!!) and cover the wok. check them every couple minutes and move them around (so they don’t stick) until you see them brown up a bit. (how long really varies depending on the stove i’ve found….) once they feel a little hard on the outside, toss them around so they brown up all over.you want to make sure the meat is cooked all the way through.

when you’ve made all of your little goodies, use the remainder of your sauce to pour over the top and place sprigs of cilantro on top for affect.

Ta da!!!

looks i'm craving.
